چکیده
Abstract Introduction Increasing numbers of children with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) require treatment continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). We aimed to assess the impact on quality life (QOL) and burden for caregivers requiring CPAP. Methods Prospective study commencing outpatient CPAP in a tertiary unit 2020-2022. Questionnaires regarding sleep-related symptoms (PROMIS Pediatric Sleep Disturbance Sleep-Related Impairment), QOL (OSA-18, QI-Disability), caregiver (Caregiver Strain Questionnaire) overall health (Glasgow Children’s Benefit Inventory) were completed by at commencement 6 weeks later. Progress Complete data available date 24 (6F; median age 12.5y, range 6-18y; OAHI 9.2/hr; BMI 30.7). OSA-related significantly improved follow-up (OSA-18 total domain scores all p<0.001). There significant improvements child general (p<0.0001), disturbance (p<0.01) impairment (p<0.001). Caregivers rated as beneficial their child’s condition (mean 30, where maximum harm -100, benefit +100). Caregiver strain reduced (p<0.001) outweighed inconvenience (p<0.0001). 3 scored higher than benefit; 1 them equally. harmful reported no effect health. Outcome results OSA, reductions strain. Perceived benefits generally treatment, but not families. Further analysis will investigate how balance relates adherence co-morbidities.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Treatment: Effect on Serum Lipids in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a common disorder in adults. Its hallmark is repetitive episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep associated with increasing respiratory efforts. This leads to oxyhaemoglobin desaturation, sleep fragmentation, and daytime symptoms, mainly excessive sleepiness. Accumulating evidence suggests that intermittent hypoxia and oxyhae...
متن کاملImpact of nasal continuous positive airway pressure treatment on quality of life in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.
Quality-of-life (QoL) issues have become increasingly important in health care practice and research. Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) results in an especially serious reduction in QoL. The purpose of this study was to measure the QoL (life satisfaction) of OSAS patients treated with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP). We aimed to determine whether and to what extent the ...

Heated humidification of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) reduces upper airway symptoms and improves initial use in obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). The present study aimed to assess the effect of heated humidification of nCPAP on upper airway symptoms and initial use in obstructive sleep apnoea. This study was of a randomised, crossover design. Subjects with polysomno...

STUDY OBJECTIVES Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy has become the treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, the efficacy of CPAP therapy has not been evaluated against a suitable control. We investigated the effectiveness of CPAP therapy in improving sleep quality in patients with OSA. We hypothesized that CPAP improves sleep quality. PATIENTS Forty-eigh...
متن کاملLong-term treatment with continuous positive airway pressure improves quality of life in obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is an established treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). While it is known that CPAP reverses the pathological breathing pattern and improves daytime sleepiness, there are no sufficient data on the long-term influence of CPAP on quality of life in patients with OSAS. Thirty-nine patients with polysomnographically verified OSAS (apnoea/h...
